Hickory - Carya spp.
The top half of the wood sample is unfinished and the lower half is finished with clear semi-gloss polyurethane.
A number of different species are in the true hickory group, including shagbark (C. ovatta), shellbark (C. laciniosa), pignut (C. glabra), mockernut (C. tomentosa). and black (C. texana) hickories, and the different woods are not easily distinguished. Whitish to pale yellow brown sapwood, with pale brown to brown heartwood. Straight-grained, very heavy and hard. Very tough, strong and highly shock resistant. |
