White Oak Lumber Properties

wood plank
White Oak - Quercus spp.

The top half of the wood sample is unfinished and the lower half is finished with clear semi-gloss polyurethane.

There are five species of white oak in this group, including the one shown: white oak (Q. alba), Bur (Q. macrocarpa), overcup (Q. lyrata) and cow (Q. michauxii) are the other species in this group. Post oak (Q. stellata) is also a white oak, but is generally not accepted due to large or excessive numbers of knots. Whitish to light brown sapwood with rich light brown to medium brown heartwood. Straight-grained, heavy and hard.
